The 34th Annual Clairemont Family Day Title Sponsor is K-CO Construction. AquaFest sponsors are South Clairemont Recreation Council, Clairemont Pool Booster Club, Clairemont Village Shopping Center, SDGE, The Scatena Family, and Caroline Abkar Rander, REALTOR®. Supporters also include the City of San Diego Park & Recreation Department Aquatics Division, City of San Diego Fire Department, Falck Ambulance, Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego and California Coast Credit Union. AquaFest is a pool activity and is hosted by the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department Aquatics Division.

The Clairemont Pool originally opened in 1979, serving the community for 44 years. The facility is one of 15 public pools operated by the City of San Diego’s Park and Recreation Department’s Aquatics Division. Clairemont Pool is set next to a beautiful open-spaced park along Clairemont Drive and provides opportunities for exercise, social interaction, and community events. The pool is vitally important in establishing and ensuring the well-being of Clairemont and the greater San Diego area by providing lifelong swim skills and encouraging health and wellness. Thousands of San Diegans have learned to swim, participated in youth swim and water polo leagues, became certified as lifeguards, and have worked to keep our community safe at this facility. In preparation for AquaFest, city staff has made upgrades this year, such as:

  • Window replacement to improve the safety and vision of the facility for the staff;
  • New signage with accurate contact information;
  • New fresh paint inside the pool office and changing area to make the areas look bigger and brighter;
  • Pool deck improvements including new bleachers, shade structures, and the replacement of privacy screens around the entire pool area;
  • The changing rooms now also feature hand-painted graphics featuring a shark scene, representing the pool’s mascot, a shark, for the recreational swim and water polo teams. The fresh paint and artwork personalized the space for our community.

Earlier this summer, community volunteers and city staff collaborated on a beautification project to clear invasive plant species and overgrown branches and bushes.

These facility improvements were also supported with a Community Projects, Programs, and Services (CPPS) grant from Councilmember Jennifer Campbell for San Diego City Council District 2 which houses the Clairemont Pool. Additional maintenance and infrastructure needs have also been identified. The Clairemont Pool Booster Club and the South Clairemont Park and Recreation Council will work together with city staff to advocate and bring awareness to improve the pool facility. Learn more about the Clairemont Pool Booster Club here.

AquaFest is held on the same day as Clairemont Family Day, which attracts more than 5,000 attendees annually. The funds raised from this event help facilitate programs for our children and teens at the South Clairemont Recreation Center and at Clairemont Pool and support our well-known community event. Funds raised this year specifically for the Clairemont Pool will also support improvements and activities at the pool. Clairemont Family Day, held in the park adjacent to the pool, kicks off with a Pancake Breakfast at 8 a.m. The event features “The Greatest Car Show on Turf” with 250 cars, a carnival zone, food trucks and vendors, pony rides, community information booths, locally owned businesses, entertainment featuring bands, dancers, and musicians, and much more! Admission is free.
